Umjindi Jewellery students graduated 2005

Vukani-Ubuntu community development projects paid tribute to their most important asset, human capital, when the students of the Umjindi Jewellery Project graduated on Tuesday April 26, 2005. The project funded by Umjindi municipality and headed by Flicka Goslett, graduated 7 students from a national three-year diploma in jewellery design and manufacturing, while 10 students received certification for the completion of their first and second years distinctively. Some of them receive special awards for outstanding performance. According to Sarichia Coetzer then marketing manager, Vukani-Ubuntu has set a new trend by turning dust to gold as some of South Africa's first ever black jewellers developed into award-winning goldsmiths. This happened after the establishment of Atteridgeville Jewellery and Design Project, the first in a black township, in January 1999. This initiative engraved a dazzling mark in history as it broke the conventional rules and soon cleared the way towards reviving the hopes of many individuals, she said.
